In simple terms, to be eligible for redundancy your must

·         Be aged 16-66.

·         Been working at least 8 hours a week for your employer.

·         Have 2 years of consecutive service with that employer.

Entitlements are as follows :

·         2 weeks pay for each year of service.

·         Plus an additional equivalent of one weeks normal pay.

The week’s pay however can never exceed €600.00 per week.

Note the Employer can claim back 60% of the redundancy payments within 6 months of it being paid from the department of trade and employment.

2 weeks notice must be given to the employee of their being made redundant and the necessary form issued.
