Special EU Programme body
The Special EU Programmes Body’s (SEUPB) manages certain European Union (EU) Structural Funds which support a range of development and regeneration programmes in the North and South of Ireland. These include :
the Programme for Peace and Reconciliation (PEACE II),
the INTERREG IIIA Programme
other EU initiatives such as the LEADER +, URBAN and EQUAL programmes
SEUPB also has responsibility for the Common Chapter and the Northern Ireland Partnership Board.
SEUPB is a North South Implementation Body sponsored by the Department of Finance and Personnel in Northern Ireland and the Department of Finance in Ireland . It was established as an implementation body on 2nd December 1999, under the Good Friday Agreement 1998 and the British Irish Agreement.
SEUPB reports to the North/South Ministerial Council.
The PEACE II Programme which began in 2000 and provided £456 million (€707 million) for projects has been extended to 2006 with an additional £120m (€160m) . The programme aims to help Northern Ireland become a more stable and prosperous society and to promote reconciliation in Northern Ireland and the border region of Ireland (Cavan, Donegal, Leitrim, Louth, Monaghan and Sligo ).
